Trainee Web Designer / Developer Placement
We are looking for students seeking a year placement / sponsorship to become part of the team. The successful candidate is expected to be productive from day one, working within a small team of highly experienced web professionals, benefiting from their extensive knowledge. Candidates must be enthusiastic, flexible, reliable, capable of working alone or as part of a team and be able to demonstrate a genuine desire to learn. Attention to detail and ability to clearly communicate within the team is a must.
This position is located in Tunbridge Wells and all applicants should provide a CV or Resume detailing experience and links to an online portfolio and / or live work.
Applicants must:
- Display via a portfolio of previous work an understanding of design for usability and aesthetics
- Be competent in hand-coding XHTML and CSS in a Dreamweaver-style development tool
- Have experience in Photoshop or other design package (PC based)
- Be able to convert flat graphic layouts into cross-browser compatible, standards-compliant XHTML
- Have an understanding of how to optimise images, XHTML and CSS to reduce bandwidth usage and improve page loading times
- Be aware of existing and emerging web technologies
Previous development of these skills clearly displays a continued interest in the field of web development and is an indication of a positive commitment to a career in the industry.
Key skills
XHTML, CSS, JavaScript, a keen eye for design and an understanding of dynamic websites.

- PHP / Perl
- MySQL and PHPMyAdmin
- jQuery and AJAX
- Photoshop / Fireworks / Illustrator
- Flash and Actionscript 2 / 3
- Knowledge of W3C compliance, WAI guidelines and other best practices
- Understanding of Search Engine Optimisation
- Statistical reporting and analysis
- Digital marketing
- Content management systems
